On 9th September, an Aerovías DAP DHC-8-402 turboprop aircraft experienced a tail strike incident while landing at Puerto Williams Guardia Marina Zanartu Airport.
The 2011-built aircraft, registered CC-DHT, was involved in the incident shortly after joining the Aerovías DAP fleet. While the specific circumstances surrounding the tail strike are still under investigation, such incidents can occur due to various factors, including excessive pitch-up during the flare, inadequate landing technique, or environmental conditions.
Moreover, despite the long scratches, the extent of the damage to the aircraft and the potential impact on its operations remain unclear at this time.
Aerovías DAP has confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The airline has initiated an internal investigation to determine the cause of the tail strike and to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Chilean aviation authorities are probably involved in the investigation, gathering information from the aircraft’s flight data recorders and other relevant sources.
