KLM flight to Rio De Janeiro declared an emergency and returned to Amsterdam.

KLM flight #KL705 departed Amsterdam Schiphol airport this Sunday, June 23 2024 a bit before 13:30 CEST.

The Boeing 777-200ER (registration PH-BQB) departed from runway 24 and climbed to 31,000 ft.

The crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700) then decided to turn around back to Amsterdam Schiphol.

The aircraft descended to 29,000 ft and started a short hold to dump fuel over the North Sea before returning and landing on runway 27 aft 1 hour and 52 minutes into the flight.

The Boeing 777 was met by fire trucks due to a suspected hydraulic failure.

According to a KLM spokeswoman, there was a technical defect on the plane, however, the safety of the passengers was not at risk.

A new departure time is scheduled to 17:30 local time.
