Air France flight from Los Angeles LAX to Paris CDG made an emergency in Montreal, Canada.
The flight #AF21 departed Los Angeles this Thursday, May 9 2024 at 2:30pm PDT for a 10-hour flight to Paris CDG.
While cruising at 35,000 ft altitude, the crew decided to divert to the nearest major airport following a technical issue.
The flight was operated by the Boeing 777-200ER registration F-GSPE which is 25 years old.
The aircraft landed at Montreal YUL about 4 hours after departure and was met by fire trucks due to smoke into the cabin.
Air France confirms that the crew of flight AF021 on May 09th 2024, from Los Angeles (LAX) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) by Boeing 777-200 decided to divert to Montreal (YUL) airport, after 4 hours of flight, following the appearance of a heat smell in the cabin.

According to a passenger who contacted AIRLIVE, the crew ordered passengers to evacuate the plane which caused panic and injuries to multiple passengers. However the unboarding of the passengers was uneventful directly from the aircraft to terminal according to Air France.
The aircraft is now grounded at Montreal. Air France is looking for different options to rescue the passengers. The airline confirmed that passenger were able to disembark with their cabin luggage and are currently being taken care by the station teams in order to provide accommodation and rebooking as soon as possible.
