A situation forced a Qatar Airways flight to divert to Emirates home base, a rare sight.
Yesterday (Aug.16, 2023), the Qatar Airways flight #QR579 from Delhi to Doha, Qatar diverted to Dubai.
The A350-900 aircraft was only 30 minutes from Doha when pilots suddenly turned left and landed at DXB 30 minutes later.
The plane (reg. A7-ALM) diverted to Dubai due to a medical emergency. A pilot, flying as a passenger has died on board.
The senior pilot — who had operated SpiceJet’s inaugural flight in 2003 – was currently working with Qatar Airways.
The pilot, 51 years old, very fit, fell ill onboard. However, he could not be saved.
“The pilot had worked with Alliance Air and spent 17 years in SpiceJet. He had operated SpiceJet’s first flight, Delhi-Ahmedabad, on May 23, 2005. Last year he had joined Qatar Airways where he was flying the Boeing 777,” SpiceJet sources said.
About one hour later, the flight resumed it’s journey to Doha and landed at 06:00 AST.
