A Turkish Airlines flight was forced to divert to Birmingham Airport.
A Turkish Airlines A321neo performed flight #TK1997 from Istanbul to London Gatwick on Tuesday, May 23 2023.
But the aircraft (reg. TC-LSN) was forced to stop the final approach to runway 08R at London Gatwick due to another flight on takeoff.
The ATC ordered the Turkish crew to initiate a go around.
Due to the previous holding and the traffic congestion at this time, pilots declared an emergency due to low fuel.
Flight #TK1997 landed safely at Birmingham Airport 20 minutes later at 17.10 BST.
The Airbus A321 resumed it’s flight to London Gatwick 1.5 hour later after refueling.
