An R’Komor Fokker 50 aircraft overran the runway during takeoff from Moheli-Mwali Airport (MWCI) in the Comoros on May 5th, 2024.

The Fokker 50, with registration D6-AIB reportedly had 52 people on board. However, the aircraft was unable to take off and overshot the runway while departing from runway 31. It then came to rest in a damaged state on rough terrain between trees.

According to local reports, there were minor injuries sustained during the incident. While the exact number remains unclear, reports indicate at least one woman was injured.

Emergency response teams, including the DRSC, were dispatched to assist those on board.

The same Fokker 50 (D6-AIB) reportedly experienced a landing gear collapse at Moheli Airport earlier this year on February 19th, 2024. It underwent repairs following that incident.

Authorities are investigating the cause of this latest event, including whether the prior damage played a role.
