BREAKING An ATR 42-500 has crashed into the lake Victoria in Tanzania with 49 passengers onboard

On 6th November, a Precision Air ATR crashed into Lake Victoria on the final approach to Bukoba Airport.

The ATR 42-500 was performing flight PW494 from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba.

Of the 43 people on board there were 24 survivors, according to operator Precision Air.

The two pilots initially survived and managed to speak to local officials from the cockpit but the prime minister says they may have since died.

The Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation reported that bad weather caused the crash. As reported by Aero World, the rescue operations had begun. Rescue boats were deployed and emergency workers were continuing to rescue other passengers trapped in the aircraft.

Precision Air stated that flight no. PW494 flying from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba was involved in an accident as it was approaching Bukoba Airport.

The rescue team has been dispatched to the scene.
