INCIDENT Alaska Airlines flight evacuated at Seattle-Tacoma after a cell phone caught fire

An Alaska Airlines flight was evacuated after landing at Seattle-Tacoma Airport after a phone caught fire.

The Boeing 737-900 was operating flight 751 from New Orleans to Seattle with 128 passengers and six crew members on board. Upon landing in Seattle, the cell phone fire was contained.

The crew members extinguished the fire using a battery containment bag, as reported by the officials. All passengers and crew members were evacuated shortly. Some of them suffered minor injuries.

Passengers were then transported to the terminal by bus. The Boeing 737-900 was towed to a gate without causing any impact to the airport operations. An Alaska Airlines spokesperson confirmed the incident. In a statement, an airline spokesperson said:

“The crew acted swiftly using fire extinguishers and a battery containment bag to control the fire and deployed the evacuation slides due to hazy conditions in the cabin.”

“All guests exited the aircraft. Medics met the aircraft to attend to guests and crew.”

However, the cause of the cell phone fire is still unknown, and neither the airport nor the airline has explained it.
