On April 24th, 2024, an ANA Boeing 787 experienced a hydraulic fluid leak and emitted smoke from the wing area shortly before landing at New Sapporo Chitose Airport.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with registration JA804A was operating flight NH71 from Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Sapporo (CTS) with 213 crew and passengers on board.

The B787 landed on Chitose’s runway 19L at around 5:30 p.m. local time and emitted smoke from the wing area. The crew opted to stop on the runway and shut the engines down.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and confirmed there was no fire, and no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew members. The aircraft was eventually towed away from the runway.

According to reports, the crew received an indication of a loss of hydraulic pressure in one of the systems.

Following this occurrence, one of the two runways at New Chitose Airport was temporarily closed for over two hours, according to Hokkaido Airports.
