INCIDENT Lion Air Boeing 737-900ER skidded runway due to heavy rain in Lampung

A Lion Air Boeing 737-900ER skidded the runway at Raden International Airport in Lampung on Sunday.

The aircraft with registration PK-LGP landed in Lampung during heavy rain at 14:45 WIB as Lion Air flight JT-173 with 7 crew members and 125 adult passengers, one child, two toddlers on board.

The aircraft took off from Hang Nadim International Airport at 13.33 local time. In a statement, Lion Air Corporate Communications Strategic Danang Mandala Prihantoro said:

“Lion Air flight JT-173 when it landed in heavy rain with visibility that met the qualifications for the aircraft landing process.

“After the plane was at low speed and the process of turning towards the parking lot (apron), the fuselage left the runway.”

After the incident, all passengers disembarked onto the runway and were being taken to the terminal.

All crew members onboard have gone through checking and health checks before leaving and are declared healthy for flight.

“Lion Air will continue to coordinate and cooperate with local airport managers and other agencies involved in the aircraft evacuation process,” Danang said.
