BREAKING Smoke fills Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2

Changi Airport staff are evacuating passengers out of Terminal 2’s departure hall right now, with reports of smoke emerging.

  • UPDATE 1053 UTC Changi Airport says cause of fire identified, “situation under control” but flight operations affected.
  • UPDATE 1048 UTC This is the statement from the Changi Airport Group:
    “The fire alarm was activated at Changi Airport Terminal 2 at about 5.40pm due to smoke coming through the air vents. Evacuation of the terminal was initiated and the Changi Airport Emergency Service team is onsite. We will update when we have more details to share.”

A anonymous staff member of the airport informed Coconuts Singapore that a fire alarm went off around 5.30pm and everyone started evacuating out of the terminal soon after. They initially believed it was a fire drill, but the smell of smoke wafted in later on.

A roadblock has been set up, while police cars and fire engines have arrived at the scene.
