A section of the M1 had to be closed on Saturday after there was an ‘aircraft emergency’ on a flight from Gran Canaria.

The motorway was closed in both directions near East Midlands Airport to allow a “clear flight path” for the Boeing 737 reg. G-JZHF on March 4.

The pilot of the holiday with 153 people on board noticed a fault indication and alerted people on the ground.

Traffic was stopped for about 20 minutes as a “precautionary” measure after the Jet2 flight suffered a malfunction.

The plane eventually landed safely with no incidents at 9.45pm.

A spokesman for Jet2 said: “Flight LS670 from Gran Canaria called for assistance on approach into East Midlands Airport as a precautionary measure, due to a fault indication.

“The aircraft landed safely and then taxied to the gate after inspection.”
