Officials are investigating a small engine fire on a plane bound for Buenos Aires yesterday at Kennedy Airport.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the pilot of an Argentina Airlines flight reported the engine fire late Thursday night while the plane was on the runway preparing for takeoff.

Photos show a bright light emanating from beneath the plane as it was stopped at the tarmac.

But when rescue trucks arrived they found no evidence of a fire, Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said. The plane taxied back to the gate for further examination.

The engine of the plane, which was bound for Buenos Aires, reportedly overheated and caught fire while stationary at the runway at around 11pm local time.
