A man has died after the JetBlue aircraft he was on made an emergency medical landing at the Wilmington International Airport so that he could be treated.

Airport Director Julie Wilsey tells The StarNews of Wilmington that the unidentified passenger suffered an undisclosed medical issue Wednesday night on board the flight from New York to Fort Lauderdale.

Emergency services were on the tarmac waiting to assist the passenger when the plane landed, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Wilsey says JetBlue dispatched a special team to Wilmington to meet with the passenger’s wife, who exited the plane with her husband.
