The pBoeing 777-300 was parked on the gate and ready for boarding when its horizontal stabiliser was clipped by an aircraft from another airline.
The plane’s scheduled flight NZ5 from Los Angeles to Auckland this evening (12 November local time) had to be cancelled.
Engineers were travelling to Los Angeles and a replacement part had been located.
However, it would need to be transported to Los Angeles to be fitted to the aircraft and it was likely to take several days to complete the repair, Air NZ said.
