A devastating mid-air collision between two helicopters in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro has resulted in the tragic deaths of several individuals, including American singer-songwriter Oliver Tree and Argentine YouTube star Gaspar Prim.

The incident occurred while both creators were at the heights of their respective international careers, sending shockwaves through the global entertainment and digital media communities.

A Tour Cut Short

Oliver Tree, 32, was in Brazil as part of a massive world tour. Known for his eccentric persona, genre-blending music, and viral visual aesthetic, the artist had just performed a highly successful show in São Paulo on June 6.

He was scheduled to fly to Europe later this month to kick off the next leg of his tour, with his first European performance slated for July 1 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Hours before the accident, Tree had posted a story on his Instagram account showing him working in a recording studio alongside other prominent names in the music industry. It would ultimately be his final interaction with his fans.

Oliver Tree by the Numbers

  • Social Media Followers: Nearly 20 million across all platforms
  • Spotify Monthly Listeners: Over 11 million
  • Top Tracks: Multiple songs surpassing 700 million streams

Global Digital Community Mourns

Among the other victims identified by local authorities is Gaspar Prim, a prominent Argentine YouTuber. Boasting nearly 7.5 million followers, Prim was widely celebrated for his content across Latin America and beyond.

The loss of both Tree and Prim has triggered a massive wave of grief online. Fans, fellow musicians, and content creators have flooded social media with tributes, artistic dedications, and expressions of disbelief.

Ongoing Investigation

Local emergency services and aviation authorities in Rio de Janeiro remain on the scene in Recreio dos Bandeirantes. An investigation into the cause of the mid-air collision is currently underway.
