LE BOURGET, France — In a rare and historic appearance at the legendary Paris-Le Bourget Airport (LBG), a Boeing C-32A (registration 98-0001) operating under the callsign SAM091 touched down at 21:30 local time tonight. Onboard is U.S. Vice President JD Vance, leading a high-stakes diplomatic mission to Islamabad to negotiate a ceasefire with Iranian officials.

The stopover underscores the logistical complexities of rapid, long-haul executive transport. While the C-32A (the military version of the Boeing 757-200) is a workhorse for U.S. senior leadership, its range limitations were on full display during today’s transatlantic crossing.

The Flight Profile: KADW to LFPB

The aircraft departed Joint Base Andrews (KADW) in Camp Springs, Maryland, earlier this morning. Following a standard North Atlantic Tracks (NAT) route, SAM091 maintained a cruising altitude of 35,000 feet (FL350) for the duration of the oceanic transit.

While the “Air Force Two” variant is equipped with auxiliary fuel tanks to extend its range compared to a commercial 757, the direct flight from the U.S. East Coast to Islamabad exceeds the aircraft’s safe operational envelope under high-security fuel reserve requirements.

  • Distance Travelled: ~3,350 nautical miles
  • Remaining Leg: ~3,150 nautical miles to Islamabad
  • The Choice of Le Bourget: Unlike the larger Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Le Bourget is Europe’s premier business aviation hub, offering the discretion and specialized security handling required for a Vice Presidential delegation.

Logistics Over the Atlantic

Aviation analysts noted that while the C-32A can theoretically reach parts of the Middle East under perfect conditions, a direct flight to Pakistan (approx. 6,500+ nm) is beyond its reach.

Next Steps for SAM091

Ground crews at Le Bourget began refueling operations immediately upon arrival. The Vice President remained on the airfield under heavy security provided by French authorities and the U.S. Secret Service.

SAM091

The aircraft is scheduled for wheels-up in the early hours of Saturday morning. From Paris, SAM091 will likely track over Central Europe and Turkey before entering Pakistani airspace.

VP Vance is expected to arrive at Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi/Islamabad on Saturday morning to begin the first round of mediated talks aimed at stabilizing the volatile conflict between Washington and Tehran.
