DUBAI – In a major disruption to one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, Dubai Airports has announced the total suspension of flight operations at both Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC) effective immediately, Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Travel Advisory: Do Not Go to the Airport

Authorities have issued an urgent advisory to all travelers, stating that both arrivals and departures are halted until further notice.

“Guests are advised not to travel to the airport, and to check with their airlines for flight updates,” a spokesperson for Dubai Airports said in a statement. “We appreciate the cooperation of our guests. Further updates will be provided as we continue to monitor the situation.”

Regional Airspace Closures

The suspension follows a decision by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority to implement a “temporary partial closure” of national airspace. This move comes as a “precautionary measure” in response to rapidly escalating regional security developments, including reported airstrikes and hostilities involving Israel, Iran, and the United States.

Neighboring countries, including Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq, have also reportedly restricted or closed their airspace, creating a “no-fly zone” effect across much of the Gulf.

Impact on Major Carriers

The closure has brought operations for Dubai’s flagship carriers to a standstill:

  • Emirates: The airline has suspended all flights to and from Dubai, stating it is “actively monitoring the situation and engaging with relevant authorities.”
  • flydubai: All operations for February 28 have been canceled as the airline adjusts its schedule in real-time.
  • International Carriers: Dozens of international flights, including those from Air India, Lufthansa, and Qatar Airways, have been diverted, canceled, or forced to return to their origin points.

Passengers currently at the airports are being assisted by ground staff, though terminal congestion is expected to rise. Travelers are urged to monitor official airline apps and the Dubai Airports website for the latest “re-open” estimates.
