Boeing CEO acknowledges delays in 777X certification program.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg admitted that the company still faces a “mountain of work” on its long-delayed 777X program, citing ongoing hurdles in securing necessary approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“We still don’t have authorization from the FAA for a good portion of the certification program, so we’re working through that right now with the FAA,” Ortberg said, adding that Boeing is “clearly behind our plan in getting the certification done.”

Boeing currently has five 777X aircraft in its flight test program. The manufacturer maintains its target of delivering the first jet in 2026—six years later than its original 2020 goal—but Ortberg cautioned that progress is dependent on obtaining Type Inspection Authorizations (TIAs) from the FAA.
