An overnight Ukrainian drone attack has sparked a fire at an oil depot at Sochi Airport.
A drone attack struck the Russian city of Sochi overnight, causing a fire after debris hit an oil tank near the Airport, according to officials in the Krasnodar region.
“Sochi suffered a drone attack by the Kyiv regime last night,” regional governor Veniamin Kondratiev said Sunday on the Telegram messaging platform. He confirmed that the resulting wreckage ignited a fire at the fuel facility.
Air traffic at Sochi International Airport was temporarily suspended but has since resumed, according to Rosaviatsia, Russia’s air transport agency.
Drone strikes on Sochi—located roughly 400 kilometers (250 miles) southeast of the Ukrainian border—are uncommon compared to other Russian cities closer to the front lines.
Ukraine has regularly hit Russian oil and gas infrastructure in response to attacks on its own territory since Russia began its war in February 2022.
