Over 100 flights cancelled by Russia’s national airline Aeroflot and IT infrastructure destroyed by hackers in retaliation for the war in Ukraine and repression in Belarus.
Aeroflot has cancelled hundreds of flights as the hacking group “Slient Crow” claims to have “destroyed” the airline’s IT infrastructure on Jul 28, 2025. According the Hackers, the damage done is estimated to be millions of dollars to repair.
The disruption paralyzed check-ins, websites and apps. Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport was flooded with stranded passengers. Aeroflot confirmed a system failure, then Russian prosecutors “launched a criminal cybercrime investigation”.
Hacktivist groups Silent Crow and Belarusian Cyber-Partisans claimed responsibility. They say they had access to Aeroflot systems for over a year, and wiped servers, stole staff communications, and downloaded passenger data. They demand Russia end its invasion and repression.
The hackers have warned that they will leak personal data on every Russian who has flown Aeroflot, plus internal emails and recorded calls from staff, unless their demands are “respected.” Aeroflot’s stock fell 4% and Russians are treating this as one of the most serious hacks on critical infrastructure to date.
Recovery may take 6 months, with $50M in damages. Hackers left a provocative ASCII message.
