A threat from a passenger grounded a flight from San Diego to Honolulu Tuesday and prompted a response to the tarmac from law enforcement.
A Hawaiian Airlines passenger’s threat against a plane as it was preparing to take off triggered a heavy law enforcement response on the San Diego International Airport’s tarmac Tuesday morning.
The Flight HA15 to Honolulu taxied to an isolated area at SAN Airport around 8:30 AM after a passenger allegedly made a bomb threat.
“During pushback from the gate, a guest was overheard making a threat to the safety of our aircraft,” the spokesperson said.
As a precaution, the captain immediately taxied the Airbus A330 (registration N395HA) to a safe location on the airfield, where it was met with local and federal law enforcement and passengers were safely deplaned.
Law enforcement, K9 units, and armored police surrounded the aircraft. All 293 onboard were safely evacuated. TSA cleared the scene by 12:06 PM. Airport ops remain normal.
