Traffic regulated at several airports after a massive power outage affected the entire Iberian Peninsula and part of France.

A power outage occurred late Monday morning, April 28. Several major airports have forced to regular arrivals:

UPDATE 13:38 UTC

  • Lisbon Airport: Zero rate for arrivals till 17:00. Very limited number of stands available. Both departures and arrivals are affected.
  • Madrid Barajas Airport: Arrivals landing rate reduced at 20/60. Madrid FMP may exclude flights from the regulation based on tactical available extra capacity.
  • Barcelona El Prat Airport: Arrivals landing rate increased to 27/60.

UPDATE 14:26 UTC

  • Lisbon Airport: Zero rate for arrivals till 18:00. No stands available. Both departures and arrivals are affected.
  • Madrid Barajas Airport: Arrivals landing rate increased to 35/60. Madrid FMP may exclude flights from the regulation based on tactical available extra capacity.
  • Barcelona El Prat Airport: Arrivals regulated until 17:00 with a landing rate increased to step-by-step up to 36/60.

Local media outlets in Spain are reporting that power is out at the main airport that services Madrid: “Power has not yet been restored to Barajas Airport,” El Mundo says. The airport handled 66.2 million passengers – making it the busiest in Spain.
