Poland said it had scrambled fighter jets in response to a “massive” Russian missile attack on Ukraine.
Overnight, Russian forces deployed strategic Tu-95 bombers, with reports indicating up to 17 aircraft. Additionally, ships armed with a significant stockpile of Kalibr missiles were positioned at sea.
Around 6:00 AM, missile launches were observed from strategic aviation, Crimea, and the Black Sea.
Subsequently, loud explosions were reported in Kyiv. A residential building in one of the city’s central districts caught fire, resulting in injuries.
In response to Russia’s large-scale missile strikes on Ukrainian territory, the military command of the Republic of Poland deployed both domestic and allied aircraft, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Army on social media platform X.
Due to Russia’s large-scale missile assault, involving strikes with cruise and ballistic missiles as well as drones on targets, including those in western Ukraine, Poland and its allies have launched an aviation operation within Polish airspace.
According to the report, “In line with existing procedures, the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces Group (AFG) has activated all available resources under their command. Fighter jets have been scrambled, while ground-based air defense and radar systems have been placed on the highest state of alert.”
