A Lufthansa A380 experienced wake turbulence after takeoff from Los Angeles.

During take off from Los Angeles LAX, a Lufthansa A380 to Munich experienced wake turbulence after another A380 took off minutes before.

During the livestream of L.A FLIGHTS, the viewers witnessed a beautiful situation as the Emirates flight was departing almost 3 hours late.

Two A380s super heavy aircraft had to take off one after the other from runway 7R during the sunset at Los Angeles LAX.

The Emirates A380 (registration A6-EVF)  was cleared to takeoff to Dubai and departed at 19:20 PDT for flight EK216.

Only 2 minutes later, the Lufthansa A380 (registration D-AIMK) departed to Munich on flight LH453 from the same runway.

The Lufthansa plane entered the wake turbulence formed by the first aircraft. The A380 is seen briefly maneuvering to stabilize the wings.

Wake turbulence is a disturbance in the atmosphere that forms behind an aircraft as it passes through the air. Wake turbulence is especially hazardous in the region behind an aircraft in the takeoff as it operates at a high angle of attack.

According to the FAA, an appropriate time or distance intervals are provided to departing aircraft when the departure will be from the same threshold:

  • Three minutes or the appropriate radar separation when takeoff will be behind a super aircraft
  • Two minutes or the appropriate radar separation when takeoff will be behind a heavy aircraft
  • Two minutes or the appropriate radar separation when a small aircraft will takeoff behind a B757

The Lufthansa flight continued to a cruise altitude of  35,000 ft and landed in Munich 10 hours and 28 minutes later.
