18 airports were targeted by false bomb threats and ten were evacuated this Friday.
In a press briefing this Friday afternoon, Transport Minister Clément Beaune detailed the alerts received by many French airports, causing “significant impacts”.
“On Wednesday, 17 airports received an alert, 15 were evacuated; Thursday 25 received an alert, 19 were subject to an evacuation measure; and since this morning, 18 airports are concerned and ten which have been the subject of an evacuation measure,” he indicated, specifying that these evacuations were “generally completed”.
At Lille, this is already the third alert in three days. “The emergency services again headed towards Lesquin for a suspicious package”, around 11:15 a.m. according to information from our Lille Actu editorial staff. The police are blocking the roads near the airport. The two previous alerts, received by email, both turned out to be false.
In Rennes also this is the third alert in three days. The airport has already been evacuated this Wednesday October 18 and Thursday October 19.
The authors of these unfounded alerts risk a lot, because sending a false alert is a crime, as indicated by Denis Jacob, general secretary of the Alternative Police. “The perpetrators risk up to 30,000 euros fine and 2 years in prison,” according to the Penal Code.
