EDINBURGH — Pilots aboard an easyJet flight from Spain to Scotland requested police assistance on arrival after raising concerns for the welfare of a heavily intoxicated mother travelling alongside her young daughter.

Flight U23206 had departed Alicante late on Saturday night, October 17, bound for Edinburgh Airport. While cruising at 38,000 feet over the UK in the early hours of Sunday morning, the flight crew on board the Airbus A320 (registration G-EZWH) contacted ground control to report the situation.

According to communications, the pilots informed ground operations that a passenger on board was “very drunk” and seated next to her young daughter.

Rather than reporting a disturbance or disruptive behavior, the flight crew emphasized that their primary concern was the safety and well-being of the child and her mother. When ground controllers indicated that police officers would be dispatched to meet the aircraft, the pilots specifically intervened to request that the mother and daughter not be separated.

The crew expressed deep concern that the young girl would be left traumatized or unattended if her mother were taken into custody upon landing. They requested that officers focus on the mother’s welfare and ensure the family was supported in getting home safely, even suggesting that police assist in arranging a taxi for them from the terminal.

The flight landed safely at Edinburgh Airport (EDI) at 1:15 AM BST, where local officers were staged to meet the aircraft and assist the family.
