Air Canada #AC698 Boeing 737 MAX fails to land three times then returns to Toronto 6 hours later

After three landing attempts, the Boeing 737 MAX was forced to return to Toronto.

On Monday February 5 2024, The flight AC698 departed Toronto to St. John’s.

The flight was operated by a Boeing 737 MAX-8 and the planned flight time was 3 hours and 30 minutes.

The aircraft (reg. C-GEKH) took of from runway 05 at 22:05 EST and reached St. John’s 3 hours later.

But while at 2,300ft, on final approach to the airport, the pilots had no choice to perform a go around due to strong corssinds.

The crew performed a second final approach 10 minutes later with the same result.

The aircraft entered a holding pattern at 3,500 for a moment before attempting a third landing.

Air Canada stated, “Due to the severe winter weather affecting other airports in the region and the time of day, returning to Toronto was the best option.”

The Boeing 737 MAX flew all the way back to Toronto where it landed on the same runway 6 hours and 19 minutes after departure.
