A Russian Boeing 777-300 was given permission to pass through Norwegian airspace during medical emergency

A Russian passenger was not allowed to land in Oslo but to pass in Norwegian airspace while a medical emergency on board.

On December 18, 2023, a Russian passenger aircraft contacted Norwegian ATC by 12:30 UTC prompted by a critical medical situation onboard.

The Boeing 777-300ER (reg. RA-73847) was operating Nordwind Airlines flight N4555 from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Varadero, Cuba.

The crew didn’t received authorization to land in Oslo but was allowed to pass through Norwegian airspace.

Aboard, one of the passengers was suffering internal bleeding due to stomach ulcers.

The plane was forced to return to Moscow. Fortunately, the man was alive when the plane landed at Sheremetyevo and was immediately sent to the hospital.

Avinor banned all Russian flights in Norwegian airspace since February 28, 2022.
