Wind gusts forecast up to 100mph are expected in some areas when low-pressure system makes landfalland.

Storm Ciarán is expected to arrive in the UK and Ireland, France, and the Iberian peninsula on Wednesday night into Thursday. Gusts of up to 100mph (160km/h) could be possible off the western coast of France before the severe winds filter through the Channel.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Chris Almond said: “Winds associated with Storm Ciaran are likely to gust to 80mph along the south coast of England, with a small risk of somewhere exposed seeing 90mph.

The traffic at London airports will be regulated especially at London Heathrow. Delays and cancelleations are also expected at London Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and City airports.

The airports on the West of UK will be affected: Exeter, Bournemouth and Bristol.

In France, the airports of Best and Rennes will be affected as soon as Wednesday night, until the storm reach Paris Orly and Paris CDG on Thursday.

Brittany and the western French coast could experience wind speeds of more than 80mph, and it is likely to remain windy through the weekend.
