After the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the European Union banned the export of goods and technologies used in the aviation industry to Russia.

The oldest Russian airline “Aeroflot” sent one of its planes to Iran for repair for the first time. This happened due to the sanctions imposed against Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to the Russian publication RBC, citing two sources. A representative of the carrier confirmed this.

Aeroflot sent an Airbus A330-300 to Tehran on April 5. There, it will be serviced by specialists of the largest Iranian carrier, Mahan Air, whose main purpose is to repair the landing gear.

A representative of “Aeroflot” stated that Mahan Air “has the necessary material base, certificates and extensive experience, the provider performs technical maintenance at a high level.”

As RBC clarifies, maintenance in Iran has been discussed for several months. Earlier, for this purpose, “Aeroflot” turned to the Hong Kong aviation engineering group HAECO. As of April 1, there were 178 Airbus and Boeing aircraft in the Aeroflot fleet.
