In an instagram post, the captain Rola Hoteit is giving an advice if you’re flying with a child.

She said “As a mom, I worried whether my child would tolerate the airplane trip because of ear pain or whether it would be a hard trip for other passengers.”

During take off and landing, the middle ear experiences a mini-trauma from the pressure difference between the air in the middle ear and the outside. Adults can easily equalize the pressure by swallowing or yawning.

However, children have a difficult time knowing how to swallow or yawn. Therefore a helpful tip to reduce your baby’s ear pain is to have your child drink plenty of fluids prior to the flight, and then during takeoff and landing, give the baby a bottle or the child juice or water to drink.
