After operating the aircraft for over two decades, Lufthansa Cargo has announced that it will retire its last remaining MD-11 freighter on Friday, 15th October.

The MD-11 freighter, with registration D-ALCC, is coincidentally the last MD-11 registered in Europe. The final touchdown at Frankfurt airport is scheduled to take place at noon.

The 23-year-old tri-jet is painted with phrases “Goodbye” and “Thank you, MD-11” on its fuselage. This aircraft completed more than 95,517 flight hours during its operation.

Lufthansa Cargo took the delivery of two Boeing 777 Freighters at the end of last month. These two 777Fs, with registration D-ALFJ and D-ALFK, will be based at Frankfurt Airport.

After the deliveries of these two 777s, Lufthansa Cargo has completed its wide-body aircraft fleet expansion program, bringing the Lufthansa Cargo’s fleet to eleven Boeing 777Fs.
