Brazilian pilot Antonio Sena was rescued on 6th March, 36 days after his plane crashed in the Amazon forest on 28th January. The search and rescue team rescued him in the municipality of Almeirim.
The 36-year old Brazilian pilot had taken off from Alenquer in the state of Para, on the northern bank of the Amazon River. He was bound to Almeirim onboard a Cessna 210 aircraft.
However, the Cessna suffered an engine failure forcing him to make an emergency landing. He had to survive on the bread he’d taken with him.

After his dramatic rescue, Antonio said: “The only thing that kept me strong and enabled me to come out of that situation alive was the love I have for my family, the desire I had to see my parents and my brother and sister again.
“It’s a story of love and faith.”
He also praised the Brazil nut harvesters, who gave him food, saying: “The harvesters have a huge heart. Maria Jorge and all the harvesters, thank you very much for everything, I love you wholeheartedly.”
“I want to thank everyone who never gave up on me.”
“Thank you, God, all honour and glory to you.”
