Delta said it has transported two shipments of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from Detroit to Atlanta and San Francisco on scheduled passenger flights.

The Atlanta-based airline said the vaccines were transported on Tuesday with the highest priority and monitored by the company’s “Vaccine Watch Tower”.

Delta is certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to handle temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. Delta was already preparing for the COVID-19 vaccine shipments.

In addition to a 40,000 square-foot cold chain facility at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Delta has multiple facilities at other hubs around the world that are certified to handle temperature and time-sensitive pharmaceuticals.

American Airlines and United Airlines have also already started shipments of the first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to the American public.
