British Airways is planning to launch a consultation that could result in cutting about 800 of its 4,500 pilot jobs.

British Airways is set to slash up to 12,000 jobs as part of a restructuring plan as the carrier grapples with the fallout of the novel coronavirus pandemic, its parent company IAG said Tuesday.

Mark Kleinman tweeted: I’m told British Airways is considering launching a consultation that could result in it axing roughly 800 of its 4500 pilots’ jobs. A 50% pay cut for BA pilots is in place until the end of May, but permanent redundancies would further underline the crisis facing UK aviation.

The company said earlier this month that it had struck a deal with its unions to suspend more than 30,000 cabin crew and ground staff.
