The report said that some residents experienced up to 75dB.
In a report published a week ago by the London Assembly Environment Committee, it said that some households already suffered noise levels about two thirds higher than the maximum recommended by the World Health Organisation, which says that aircraft noise above 45 decibels can be associated with “adverse health effects”.
As a result, London Assembly Environment Committee wants to halt proposed air traffic growth at both airports, and scrap plans entirely for the third runway at Heathrow.
Other measures the London Assembly proposes include continuing the ban on night flights, and “strengthening” the restrictions around early morning flights.
The report also proposes rotating flight paths, and designing routes that minimise noise by avoiding “stacking” low-level flying and flying overlapping paths.
