Australian airport workers will take part in protests at five of Australia’s major airports on Tuesday 2 October 2018.

The Transport Workers Union (TWU) advises that the protests will be happening at:

  • Brisbane: Domestic Terminal at 11am
  • Melbourne: Virgin Australia Domestic Arrivals at 11am
  • Sydney: International Terminal Departures at 9:30am
  • Perth: Domestic Terminal at 10am
  • Adelaide: Main Airport entrance at 10:30am

The TWU protests are a part of a worldwide protest day being held by Airport Workers United. Protests will occur at 40 airports in 13 countries. The protests aim for fair pay and better working conditions for contracted airport workers.

Other airports named as sites for protests include:

  • LAX
  • Seattle
  • Boston
  • Baltimore
  • Newark
  • Miami
  • Minneapolis
  • Portland
  • Houston
  • Denver
  • San Francisco
  • Paris Charles De Gaulle
  • Amsterdam Schipol

The move was inspired by the New York Port Authority increasing the minimum wage for 40 000 workers at JFK, La Guardia and Newark
