Russia’s IAC said on Thursday it was suspending certification of the Boeing 737 until unspecified safety concerns could be resolved. The IAC plays a role similar to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board as an investigative and advisory panel. Another Russian agency, Rosaviatsiya, has the power to order airplanes grounded, akin the authority of the Federal Aviation Administration in the U.S. In a statement reported by Russian news agencies, the IAC said the certifications were suspended until the FAA and Rosaviatsiya agreed that the 737s were safe to fly.
