With Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans calling runways 14L/32R and 14R/32L unsafe and “fatally flawed” because they intersect others runways and reduce efficiency, the Chicago Department of Aviation permanently closed runway 14L/32R permanently on 8/20/2015. This was one of the original runways from Orchard Field, and the runway in which AAL191 departed, resulting in the worst US aviation incident until 9/11.
