About thirty Ukrainian soldiers are trained in the mechanics and technology of Dassault fighter-bombers on the Mont-de-Marsan and Nancy bases.

While Poland and Slovakia passed the milestone last week, Ukrainian airmen are being trained in France in ground-to-air defense as well as survival in the event of ejection in hostile terrain, announced the French Ministry of the Armed Forces.

“We are training Ukrainian crews in France, particularly in ground-to-air defense and survival in the event that their aircraft is shot down” , detailed the deputy delegate for information and defense communication, General Yann Gravethe, during a weekly press briefing.

According to Le Figaro, the learning of the pilots themselves has not yet begun, but only that of “air military personnel” . The decision would have been taken in February, shortly after the visit of the Ukrainian president to Paris.

For the moment, no announcement from the Ministry of the Armed Forces or the Elysée suggests that France’s position has changed, but if this were the case in the future, the training of Ukrainian pilots could speed things up. “France wants to keep all latitudes. If one day the political decision is taken, the pilots will have to be trained,”  a source familiar with the matter told Le Figaro .
