Lufthansa Cargo has flown 80 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables from Frankfurt to Doncaster Sheffield Airport for British supermarkets, including Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
The Boeing B777 Freighter with registration D-ALFH departed Frankfurt at 1:34 pm local time and landed in Sheffield at 1:50 pm local time as flight LH8352.
Around 3,000 lorries remain stuck in Kent as the drivers won’t be able to cross the Channel from Dover until they have been certified as Covid negative following a mass testing program at ports.
There are concerns that testing drivers could delay food supplies over the next few days.
The German carrier may operate more flights over the next few days to help restock supermarket shelves after shortage fears. A Lufthansa spokeswoman told the BBC:
“Lufthansa Cargo is currently examining whether additional special cargo flights can be offered during the next days. We are also checking if a regular flight might be possible.”

“This could be with a freighter, but we are also examining if we could use passenger aircraft for freight flights only.”
