Southwest flight to Houston returned to Denver after engine cowling detached mid-air.

Sunday, April 7 2024 the Southwest flight #WN3695 to Houston returned to Denver for an emergency landing.

The Boeing 737-800 (registration N8668A) took off from Denver at 07:49 MDT and climbed to 10,000 ft when the cowling of the right engine detached.

The pilots contacted air traffic control for requesting an immediate return and emergency landing.

The aircraft landed on runway 34L only 10 minutes after departure. A spare aircraft (registration N8523W) has resumed to flight to Houston.

The aircraft involved in the incident was delivered to Southwest in 2015.
