A United Airlines flight from Houston, Texas, to Fort Myers, Florida, was forced to return to Houston on Monday, March 4, 2024, after experiencing an engine fire.
The incident involved a Boeing 737-900 with registration number N31412. According to reports, the B737’s left engine, a CFM56-7B26 engine, began emitting flames and loud popping sounds approximately 12,000 feet above ground.
Taking swift action, the pilots shut down the malfunctioning engine and initiated an emergency landing procedure.
Flight N31412 was able to safely return the aircraft to George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, landing on Runway 27 without further incident.
