Delta #DL86 from Detroit to Frankfurt makes an emergency landing due to engine issue

A delta flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Syracuse.

Tuesday, February 27 2024, the flight #DL86 departed Detroit on time at 17:50 EST to Frankfurt, Germany.

The flight was operated by an Airbus A330-200 (registration N861NW) which is 17 years old.

The aircraft climbed to 37,000 ft but less than one hour into the flight, the crew informed ATC about an engine problem and requested an emergency landing.

The flight was vectored to the closest airport which was Syracuse.

After a rapid descent, the plane landed on runway 28 and was checked by firetrucks before to reach a stand.

At the time of writing, the Airbus A330 is still at Syracuse Airport 14 hours after landing.

Passengers embarked a sister A330-200 (reg. N860NW) which departed Syracuse at 4:15 EST.

The flight #DL86 is expected to land in Frankfurt by 17:15 CET, 16 hours behind schedule.
