A Jet2 flight was diverted to Cork after the cabin crew discovered a dead body in the plane’s toilets.

Flight LS918 took off from Tenerife on Thursday and was heading north to Manchester when it was suddenly diverted to Cork Airport.

Passengers noticed a man had been inside the toilet for quite some time and alerted the cabin crew.

“Regrettably, we can confirm that [a] customer sadly passed away, despite the best efforts of our highly-trained crew who intervened as soon as they became aware,” Jet2 confirmed in a statement.

“This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew and we would like to thank them for their efforts. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”

It is understood the man suffered a cardiac arrest and his body has been taken to a mortuary in Cork.

A spokesperson for Cork Airport said once the plane landed shortly after 7.30pm emergency services, Gardaí and Cork Airport police were all on hand to render assistance.
