BREAKING Kenya Airways aircraft has been diverted to London Stansted Airport due to security issue

Essex Police is attending an incident at Stansted Airport after a Kenya Airways plane from Nairobi to Heathrow was diverted.

The flight #KQ100 from Nairobi to London Heathrow was diverted to London Stansted.

The Royal Air Force fighter jets have been scrambled to intercept the aircraft.

The Boeing 787-8 landed at 15:54 BST at London Sansted due to a security matter.

A London Stansted spokeswoman said the Boeing 787 “landed safely with Essex Police in attendance”.

The aircraft (reg. 5Y-KZG) was escorted to a remote parking stand with normal flight operations now continuing.

Kenya Airways has released a statement

Kenya Airways PLC (“KQ”) confirms that on Thursday, 12″‘ October 2023, at around 10:30hrs, KQ Headquarters received an alert of a potential security threat on board KQ100 operating from Nairobi to London Heathrow.
KQ management in conjunction with the security authorities of the Government of Kenya and the United Kingdom carried out a thorough risk assessment of the threat.
The aircraft landed safely at the Stansted airport, London for security clearance by U.K government security personnel.
