A worker was killed in an ‘industrial’ accident on New Year’s Eve at Montgomery Regional Airport.

Officials said the incident involved an American Airlines/Piedmont Airlines ground crew employee.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the incident happened “where American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, was parked.”

The flight was scheduled to depart Montgomery for Dallas-Forth Worth Saturday afternoon.

Two people briefed on the matter said the initial investigation indicates the employee was killed in an accident involving one of the airplane’s engines that was running.

The airport initially grounded all outbound and inbound flights, but resumed normal operations at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
