A Boeing 737 returned to Phoenix only 37 minutes after departure as pilots declared an emergency.
Alaska Airlines flight AS1348 departed Phoenix, AZ today at 13:32 MST, more than one hour behind schedule for a 2-hour flight to Portland, OR.
The Boeing 737-800 (registration N537AS) took off from runway 7L and stopped the climb at 17,000 feet as the crew decided to turn around.
On it’s way back to PHX airport, pilots declared an emergency (squawk 7700) requiring a priority landing due to a technical issue with the aircraft (smoke on board).

The flight touched down on runway 08 only 37 minutes after departure and taxied to gate E6.
According to data, another Boeing 737-800 (registration N526AS) arriving from Seattle will resume the flight to Portland.
